The Leach Botanical Garden is the ideal place for a mid-day stroll. The garden is open to the public and only has a fee of $5 for children and adults, although some discounts apply and you could get a free pass to enter if you meet the requirements! The garden is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, but it is closed every Monday. There are many different events and activities for all to enjoy.

In 1982, Leach Garden Friends was formed to care for the property with an enhanced level of service required by a botanical and horticultural space. The friend's group raised funds for landscaping, repair, and maintenance of the buildings, and educational programming that included public events and plant sales. Today more than 15 staff members care for the property, offering educational events, tours, plant care, and visitor services to more than 45,000 people per year.

This partnership between Leach Garden Friends and Portland Parks and Recreation has endured for 40 years most recently realized with an $11 million campaign, comprised primarily of SDC funding, funding from Prosper Portland, and other philanthropic contributions to developing the upper garden which added parking, sidewalks, a covered arbor, and a new pollinator garden. (See Development Plan below). This campaign sets the stage for two more phases of development that will include a new community center/administration building and additional cultivated gardens. LGF also raised $1.5 million, shepherded by Representative Jeff Reardon to perform maintenance and repairs on the Manor House, Carriage House, and stone cottage.

On a summer evening this year, Leach Botanical Garden in Portland has magnificent live music and murmurs of Johnson Creek as well as breezes through the Douglas fir trees on its East Terrace.

Composer Deena T. Grossman is releasing her newest album, Becoming Durga, along with a fundraising concert and party. Ms. Grossman's music is believed to combine a concern for the environment with an awareness of Native American, Balinese, and Japanese folk traditions to create a distinctive voice from the Pacific Northwest.

David Eby (Pink Martini) will set the tone with Raven: A Portrait in Four Movements, featuring cellist David Eby. Camila Oliveira, a flutist, will wow listeners with a bright palette of flute tones in the snowy egret, January Messenger, and emotionally moving Island of the Spirit. Mirabai Peart, viola and voice, performs Grossman's emotional Temenos: Sacred Space. Deena T. Grossman on the banjo joins Mirabai Peart on violin and Michael Mandrell on fingerstyle guitar in the album's namesake piece Becoming Durga, which is available to stream or download.

There are also events for kids! Each Friday in July, the garden will have different artists perform in the Far Meadow from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. So grab the kiddos, their costumes, a picnic lunch, and head out to the Garden for some kid-focused live music! The concert music is geared toward toddler-aged children but all are always welcome.

Picnicking is permitted in the Dino Meadow and Far Meadow (the grassy fields in the upper garden closest to the main entrance) on event days. After the concert, go exploring in the garden
